Just before leaving for the Saturday afternoon semifinals and finals of the Stockton Classic last weekend, one of the top college football games on TV was Vanderbilt upsetting Georgia. Vandy quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels was on crutches after suffering an injury, but started the game and has been starting for the Commodores all season.
Once arriving at the Lincoln High gym, and then FAB 50 ranked Archbishop Mitty of San Jose took the floor, it didn’t take long to notice that the Monarchs have a Carta-Samuels on their roster. Yes, that would be Austyn’s little sister, junior libero Gabriella Carta-Samuels. Gabriella also is the younger sister of Elite 11 quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels, who is one of the top football players in Northern California but who doesn’t go to Archbishop Mitty. He instead attends all-boys school Bellarmine Prep of San Jose.
